Have you guys seen this? I just watched the whole series in a week because of how awesome it was.
I’m looking to find someone I can talk to about this. It was amazing.

I’ve got the first series down, hooked my grandparents last week when I was back in Detroit, and am currently reading the book.
Also in my book queue:
At Night She Cries While He Rides His Steed - Ross Patterson

I’ve heard it’s not that transparently science fiction (more “standard alt history”) until the time travel hints start dropping. Which isn’t surprising from a PKD-based series, of course - would be even less surprising if it were RAH.

I’m a few episodes in so I’ll be careful to not read too many spoilers, but I really like it.

Same here. I discovered it over Christmas vacation.

Loved the first season. Their car choice is on point. HAHA

I thought it was okay. I think they wrung it out a bit too much. It would have been better if it was a couple of hours shorter. I want more cool sci-fi alternate universe/film stuff and less antiques dealer/relationship problems for season two.
I loved all the machinery, though. From the tri-axle truck to the Concordes.

Gotta love that big ass GMC

Haha I hear you about the antique dealer. He was kind of a bitch.
I saw that first Concorde and went WHOA WTF

I watched the whole thing in a week.
Well, 4 days

It’s really, really cool.
I think it keeps getting cooler as you go

I was more than a little disappointed. It’s very character driven and has some psychological/sci-fi elements. I came into it knowing almost nothing about the book or Phillip K Dick, so if I’d had that as background, I might have appreciated it more. But as it stands, for a TV series I’d give it 6 out of 10 (where 10 out of 10 is Band of Brothers and 1 out of 10 is...well, anything that gets canceled after 4 episodes).
The sets and cars are amazing, though.

It made me get amazon prime.

Seems a lot, a lot more alternate history than sci-fi.
There’s a couple moments were you’re like - hey! they shouldn’t have that yet! oh right the nazi’s never cared what they had to go through to develop crazy high tech stuff at the cost of anyone/thing involved so ok makes sense they got their first if they were allowed to continue.
The detail was impressive though.

I would like to read the book I’m a little worried I ruined it by watching the show.
Next time you’re in Detroit let me know man

I think I like it more because it’s exactly when I expected of it (character driven alternative history). The sets were amazing with detail. I couldn’t believe how much the integrated the swastika into stuff, because you know the Nazi’s would have actually done that. One of the biggest, damn that’s some detail moments for me was when they zoomed in on one phone that had a Nazi logo in the middle of the rotary.

Just get Kodi and don’t pay for netflix, prime, or well, anything.

I marathon watched it too. That is some seriously good TV right there.

Great great great show

In one episode they actually call those Planes a Rocket. They seem much larger than a Concorde too.

We kept it a secret. Surprised my grandparents by bringing my daughter with me on her first flight. We almost showed up to the Jalopnik Karting thing, but ended up going to my grandparent’s after my daughter demanded White Castle.
Maybe if I get sent to work the Flint disaster we’ll meet up.
Oh, and the book is different than the show. I noticed a few differences immediately, but it follows a similar story line.

Ahh ok, and that’s fine I felt like crap the weekend of Karting and I missed it, despite messages to my phone of “Hey you coming?” “Hey you coming?” “Where are you?”

I thought it was really good. I am going back and reading the book as we speak.

See, I’m afraid I ruined the book by watching.
Think I should go for it?
![]() 01/22/2016 at 12:19 |

I noticed that, too. Awesome.
![]() 01/22/2016 at 12:39 |

No actually the two are very different. The show seems like they took the characters from the book and re-wrote a lot of it.

oh ok cool, makes me want to read it now, I do a lot of reading and I almost surprised myself by watching before reading I almost always go the other way around.

I love the show, its crazy to think that the basis of the show could have actually happened!

yes! I find it hard to believe the Germans could have taken over the whole continent, but apparently they won the race to get the A-Bomb so, that changes everything.

The first few episodes were really slow, but the last three episodes really ramped things up. The season finale is pretty mindblowing, and I hope they play up the alternate reality/time travel aspect a bit more.
Other impressions: Trying to drive the story through character development only helps if the characters are compelling, but they generally aren’t. Some of the peripheral characters - the Trade Minister, the Kempetai chief, and Obergrupenfuhrer Smith - are who shined brightest to me, along with the set design. There were some great details in the sets, such as the cars, clothing, the run down look of the neutral zone with faded Uncle Sam posters, Japanese-influenced San Francisco, and the German and Japanese troops having some era-appropriate weapons (H&K MP5s and G3s for the Germans, Howa Type 64s for the Japanese Imperial Guard).

As I get further in the book, I have this gut feeling the 1st season is a precursor to what happens in the book. Thinking about it that way, I’m really excited to see how they do season 2!
![]() 01/22/2016 at 14:26 |
|
The set detail was probably the best part of the whole series.
*****SPOILERS AHEAD*****
I saw Joe getting setup looking at that blank folder a MILE away but I loved every second of it because I was on my couch going NO, DON’T GO IN THERE, NO, DON’T OPEN IT, damnit you’re an idiot.
Smith seems like the smartest guy on the show, his attention to detail is impressive . The Kempetai chief just seemed like a dick, though he was willing to do whatever he had to for his country, I’ll give him props for that one.
Biggest spoiler is next go away people who haven’t watched:
I love how “the man in the high castle” has the resistance doing busy work for him, it’s freaking hysterical to me.

now I REALLY want to read it
![]() 01/22/2016 at 15:10 |

They very well could have won the race for the A bomb if Berlin didn’t fall when it did. A lot of the scientist that perfected our own A bomb were captured Germans, same thing with NASA.

I love how “the man in the high castle” has the resistance doing busy work for him, it’s freaking hysterical to me.
I’m hoping they explore this a bit more in the next season. It seems like he’s pulling literally all of the strings, with everyone working for him whether they know it or not., which makes me wonder what else he knows about and is working towards that no one else does.
Then again, I wonder who is creating the movies, and if there is greater meaning to what is being shown in them.

Haha ironically I’m watching Manhattan at the same time...

Yeah it’s pretty crazy man. When I saw him watching it I was like I FUCKING KNEW IT!
Those resistance guys are risking everything for their cause. If they only knew...

I enjoyed it! I hope they get a second season.

Me too! That being said, I’m going to miss the ‘Swedish Ambassador’ - he was another peripheral character who was more complex and interesting than the headliners.

Yeah he was fascinating, the goodbye scene was BRUTAL. He knew it was the end and it finally clicked for the wife when he was saying bye to the kids.
Man he wanted to be better.
Changing gears, man Juliana’s mom was a pain in the ads why did they have to coddle her so much?!

I read the book, and I was nowhere near smart enough to understand it. So I’ve been too intimidated to try the series.

I haven’t read the book, but no one would have much trouble following the show.
(and if you watch it and can’t follow, I’m going to look like a dick now lol)

Good question. I hope we don't see much of her next season.

I was sick of her the 2nd time we saw her lol
